The one Clarks shoe I have is the best shoe I have ever owned. I figured this one would be up there as well and I needed a boot for winter. Well when tucked under my pant legs the upper edge of the boot really digs at my skin when walking. The leather is not what you would call soft. It hurts! If I walked a lot I am sure my leg would have chaffing! Not sure what Im going to do about this--hopefully I can break them in. Aside from this aspect it is a comfortable shoe. I wish it used softer more supple leather though. Especially at this price point. I took into consideration the recommendations from everyone to buy a half size smaller. I have wide feet and it was a mistake! I normally wear 11 reg dress/casual shoes although I really am a 10.5 W. So I figured 10.5s should fit perfect. The length was good but the OVERLY soft leather on the redwood instantly started forming to the outer edge of my foot. Looked awful. Not to mention they showed up with a crease in the toe already. So I took them in the shower with me and with the aide of the hot water they fit and look a little better. The sole got dirty in 1 day! So I took some Lincoln black shoe polish and a tooth brush and stained it. Now its a deep brown and looks great. Also threw about 6 heavy coats of polish on them and they look great. 1 of a kind. I wore them into the Clarks store and bought me a set of perfect fitting 11.5s. 1 size up from my norm. Ive spent most of my life in boots of one sort or another and these are by far the best casual boots out there. They are great multi-tasksers--equally at home on the trails at work or on the town. These are my second pair of Clarks Desert Boots. I still have my first pair--the beeswax leather--I wanted them in black too.The boots are very durable well made and are made from 100 percent natural and sustainable materials. Also they last forever provided you take care of them--use appropriate polish mink oil and saddle soap as needed and these will go on forever. When the sole wears out it can be replaced inexpensively at most shoe and boot repair shops.Although there are some tasks that other boots would be better for--I would much rather have my Gortex lined Matterhorns for slogging through the snow than my Clarks (these are desert boots not slog through the Arctic boots)--the Clarks can step in and do the job--and still look like boots--as opposed to looking like a pair of beefed up sneakers like Hi Techs or what have you.The only drawback to these boots is that they can be hard to get for under $100 or at all in some cases. They are rarely on sale and they sell out pretty quick. I had to wait three months to get these but they are worth it.

These are my second pair of Clarks Desert Boots. I still have my first pair--the beeswax leather--I wanted them in black too. These are my 12th pair!!! Love these Boots!! Very comfortable and they go virtually with any wardrobe. This color is more of a matte burgundy color. Very nice!!!!
